We visited the Indian Himalayas for a five day trip of snowshoeing and camping. Above Manali, at about 3,500 m altitude, just below the Hampta Pass, we suffered heavy snow fall and white-out conditions. We sheltered in the woods and made an impromptu decision to dig a snow cave. It took three hours and was well worth the effort as it offered excellent shelter!
