Excerpt from a broadcast nationwide broadcast by Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian Smith from a studio in the capital city of Salisbury in which he warned that "some pretty tough action" would have to be taken against those who aided them. He pointed the finger at external as well as internal actors.
Smith announced a tightening of of security around Rhodesia's border areas and a decision was made to give "loyal African chiefs" special powers to impose collective punishment on "tribal communities" which aid the guerrillas.

Rhodesia was later reconstituted as Zimbabwe in 1979. Salisbury was changed to Harare.
