Hey there, today I'm showing you how I crafted this movable cathedral-style leg armor from 3.5 mm (9 oz) veg tan leather – fully wearable.
We go step-by-step from cutting the pattern, carving in decorative lines, stamping, dyeing with layered teal and black, to shaping the leather for anatomical fit. I also walk through using felt backing for contrast and comfort, adding buckles, straps, and rivets for modular assembly, and using screw rivets to make the knees flexible. Plus, we add suspenders and a boot strap for full mobility.

Recommended materials and tools
3,5 mm (9 oz) veg. tanned leather, about 1,6 m² (17 sqfoot)
4 mm (1/6 inch) felt, 1,2 m² (13 sqfoot)
2,5 cm (1 inch) wide straps form strong flexible leather or backpack straps
2 buckle for 1,7 cm (3/4 inch) straps, one for each boot
8 buckle for 2,5 cm (1 inch) straps, 4 for each leg
Screw rivets 5 mm (1/5 inch) width, 10 mm (2/5 inch) length
Rivets [medium size: ~9 mm (~0.35 inch) head diameter, ~8 mm (~0.31 inch) length, big size: ~9 mm (~0.35 inch) head diameter, ~13 mm (~0.51 inch) length]
Suspenders to wear the leg armor

Tools: edge trimmer, cutting knife, burnisher, hole punch, leather carving tools, bone folder, clamps, sewing material, diamond shaped chisel, wing divider, glue, anvil, sewing machine recommended, 1,2 cm (½ inch) end punch or cut off around holes punch (for the decorative edge of the felt).
