"We understand that it is a very saddening incident that a young, energetic, educated, and quite liberal journalist was killed. So I believe that his murder is an attempt to scare and threaten the liberal forces. STORYLINE:
Journalists gathered in Karachi on Friday to protest against the killing of a reporter employed by Pakistani broadcaster Geo News.
Wali Babar was gunned down in the city while riding in his car on Thursday night.
Pakistan media reports said that 29-year-old Babar was stuck in his car in a traffic jam when a gunman fired several shots, hitting Babar in the face, neck and head.
The gunman then apparently escaped on a waiting motorbike.
It was unclear why Babar was killed.
At Karachi Press Club on Friday, journalists held a demonstration, chanting and carrying placards demanding to know who had killed their colleague.
The President of the press club, Tahir Hasan Khan described Babar as "young, energetic and educated".
Khan said he believed that his death was an attempt to "scare and threaten the liberal" people in the city.
Karachi is plagued by frequent political, religious and ethnic violence.
Local media reports said seven other people were killed and a dozen more wounded in various incidents in Karachi on Thursday evening.
