Plot: Mulan is captured as a war criminal by Shang and his men, he tries interrogating her to no avail as she will not falter in her loyal to Shan Yu and is forced to travel with them back to their main encampment.

Back at the camp, Shang tries to have a one on one conversation, still forlorn at the path Mulan has chosen. Succumbing to him, Mulan gives him very little information and turns away when he mentions Shan Yu, who she's forlorn about losing in the avalanche.

Meanwhile, Shan Yu who is still very much alive, crawls out from beneath the snow and finds himself in the midst of his dead army, a handful only remaining. He spots Mulans sword and assumes that she died along with everyone else. This sends him into a revenge filled rampage.

( unseen ) He rallies some local bandits & mercenaries to regrow his army.

Mulan also has a dream about the day everything happened. How one of the soldiers took out the army with an explosive, how Shan Yu "died" and how she was captured by Shang's army.

Time passes and Shang takes Mulan back to the palace where she is met by her father who chastises and nearly disowns his daughter for this war. He starts blaming the deaths of hundreds on her and she starts to see the startling reality of her decision. But her sister Mei, who she thought was long gone, is happy to see her sister after so long, even after everything. They hug and Mulan cries in her excited and sad state. Shortly afterwards Mei fills her in on the tragedy about her other two sisters.

( They had been travelling the countryside when they were attacked by one of the many groups of bandits, who're allied with Shan Yu, raping & pillaging several villages. There guard could only manage to rescue one and Ting-Ting decided it should be Mei, the youngest. )

Mulan runs off to cry and both Mei & Shang ( who is currently betrothed to her now ) feel sorry for Mulan. However Mei has accepted their death and is happy to spend more time with her fiance, leaving Mulan be.

Later the next day, the emperor holds a festival in honor of his "kidnapped daughter being found & returned to her rightful home by Shang", in hopes of culling the rumors that she's actually a war criminal and not to dishonor his whole family.

Mulan is there, trying to enjoy the festivities and regain her old self when she accidentally runs into Shan Yu who is planning a coop on the palace. They're shocked to see one another but don't have much time for a reunion because his men strike. Shan Yu asks that Mulan join him "for old time sake". She runs after him, afraid at what he means by that. It's then she sees her father & sister taken hostage. She has to make a split decision between family or her war-mongering lover and decides to defend Mei & her father.

She turns on Shan Yu, attacks him and he runs after her. They tousle until they reach the roof where Mulan steals his sword & corners him
