Emperor = Mulans father
Shang = Mulans betrothed
Shan Yu = Mulans secret lover

Plot: Mulan, the princess of China and next in line for the throne, is betrothed to a man named Shang, one of China's top generals and a controlling brute. Shan Yu has been her estranged lover for sometime and one day when he sees Mulan sulking the day before her marriage, he gifts her a flower pin and makes her happy.

The following day the emperor over sees her preparation for marriage as Mulan places the pin in her hair, a way of still remaining Shan Yu's. Mulan then goes to see Shan Yu one more time before the wedding but Shang cuts it short and yells at Mulan, who tries to fill her role as a quiet, obedient wife in front of Shan Yu. He can't believe what he's seeing and attacks Shang. Meanwhile Mulan runs away and later that night after shaming her father and walking off on her betrothal, cuts her hair and runs away.

Weeks go by and Shan Yu is attacking China because ( insert reason here ) and Mulan joins up with him, pretty much turning her back on her responsibilities, country and father. She cries but Shan Yu consoles her. Now together, they wreck havoc across the China until they catch some soldier spying on them.

They attack the small patrol of soldiers lead by Shang but the Huns end up dying, including Shan Yu, in a giant avalanche. This drives Mulan over the edge as she mourns his death and vows to finish what he started and destroy the empire of China as the new leader of the Huns.

Mulan leads a sneak attack on her father after Shang presents Shan Yu's sword. She demands her father bow before her but he refuses and says he disowns her and has brought nothing but dishonor onto her lineage. Mulan looks past her doubts ( her love for her father and their relationships ) and slices off his head.

She destroys China and before leaving with the Huns, she places Shan Yu's sword and his hat in the aftermath of the burning empire, mourning his loss.
