Описание: The Tamang community is one of Nepal’s oldest indigenous groups, with a history stretching nearly 30,000 years. Known for their distinct identity, language, culture, and traditions, Tamangs primarily reside in the hilly regions surrounding the Kathmandu Valley.

⭐ Origin & Identity

The name Tamang is often interpreted as “horse warrior” or “horse trader,” though several theories exist regarding their true origin. Early documentation traces their identity back to King Bum Degan (1253–1280) of Mustang. In Tibetan sources, they are known as “Rongpo” meaning border residents.

⭐ Historical Struggle

The Tamang people fought two wars against Gorkha rulers and were later denied military ranks beyond Pipa. Forced labor (Jhara) and social oppression pushed the community into poverty and exclusion.
