This is another video in my series “New Forest Walks” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode I take a walk in woods to the South of Cadnam (located North of Lyndhurst & West of Southampton). Things didn't quite go to plan with this walk!
I started off from the Shave Wood Forestry Commission car park (just off the A337) & headed North though the Shave Green Inclosure. My original idea was then to continue North over / under the A31 to get to Bignell Wood.
However, when I realised that there was not an underpass to the A31 where I had expected (there was one further West but that was too far out of my way) – and the road was way too busy to even considering crossing over – I decided to about turn and make my way back to the car park. I had to complete the remaining part of my walk (North of the A31) after a short car journey.
After stopping off briefly at Cadnam to try and find the legendary “Cadnam Oak”, I parked close to Bignell Wood and headed on in to finish my walk by trying to find the location (and earthwork remains) of a Medieval Royal Hunting Lodge.
I have put a map on “on screen” (during the video) of a suggested 2.5 mile circular walk – that could be extended – within Shave Wood & Shave Green Inclosure.
