Australia Had No Bomber Production in 1939 — By 1943 They Were Building Almost One Beaufort Per Day

Описание: In December 1939, Australia had zero bomber manufacturing capability. By September 1943, the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation was producing 28 Bristol Beaufort bombers per month - nearly one every 25 hours. This is the story of how a nation with no experience building combat aircraft created an entire industry from scratch under wartime pressure.

Over 700 Australian-built Beauforts served with the RAAF in the Pacific War, flying 10,545 operational sorties against Japanese forces in New Guinea and the surrounding region. Aviation historian William Green called the Beaufort's role "probably more important than that of any other aircraft type" in defeating Japanese forces in the south-west Pacific.

This documentary explores the technical challenges, industrial obstacles, and human stories behind Australia's remarkable manufacturing achievement - from converting 20,000 design drawings into production specifications, to training 5,200 workers from scratch, to solving thousands of engineering problems for tropical warfare.

🎯 KEY TOPICS COVERED:
The decision to manufacture Beauforts in Australia (1940)
Technical specifications and engineering challenges
Building a supply chain from nothing - 35,000 components per aircraft
Training 5,200 workers with no aircraft experience
Production timeline: from 1 aircraft in 1941 to 28 per month in 1943
Modifications for Pacific warfare
Bristol Taurus engine problems in tropical conditions
Combat operations in New Guinea, 1942-1944
Battle of the Bismarck Sea participation
Statistical impact: 10,545 sorties, 3,800 tonnes of bombs
