This recording from 12 March 1931 is our final Sammons upload for today.
Sandler was born Abraham Sandler in London on 2 June 1906. Given his first violin on his eleventh birthday, he was initially taught by his older brother.
He started playing in a local cinema orchestra at age 12, spent two years at the Guildhall School of Music and eventually became leader of the orchestra at the Trocadero and later the Grand Hotel, Eastbourne.
The Grand Hotel was the site of his first radio broadcast in 1925. He was eventually to make more than 1,100 broadcasts. He also made many recordings and concert appearances. Light music was always his specialty.
He became ill in April 1948, and died on 29 August 1948 aged only 42.
For those interested in Sandler, I heartily recommend 'Albert Sandler: A Life and Discography' by Judah Mirvish, which can be accessed at: https://jmirvish.atavist.com/albert-s...
This is an interesting, informative and comprehensive study of Sandler, a fine musician who deserves to be better remembered than he is.
