This is the military version of the Lockheed Connie. This was a very successful civilian airliner from just after the second world war. One of the last big piston airplanes before jets took over. The EC-121 was a radar surveillance airplane that was used to create a picket line of coverage around North America. Dozens of airplanes flew constantly to provide a cold war defence from a Russian attack. Today not one EC-121 still flys but there are three civilian Connies still flying. All are major restorations and are carefully looked after. One is in europe, one in Australia, and the third in USA.
