This is a stage against Reaper, otherwise known as Mitsuhide. Reaper is a massive edgelord, He applies a voice filter and dresses up his troops with absurd things like bat wings on all of his troops so he can pretend they're actually an army of demons. He also has the highest number of kamikaze troops because he's an asshole.
There's a mission to stop Reaper from reaching his main camp, but I ignore it to kill all of the enemies he spawns and get EXP. It would end the stage prematurely, robbing you of more potential EXP and weapon/item drops with only 3000 EXP as your reward for defeating him early. That being said, I do rush him in later stages just to make it end faster.
Want to know another reason Devil Kings is a butchered Sengoku Basara 1? Because four characters were made NPCs. Reaper is one of those characters where you can play him in the JP version, but can't in Devil Kings. Why were 4 characters turned into NPCs? I have absolutely no idea. But hey, at least that means I have less playthroughs to finish this game up.
