This episode is extra special because I’m joined by my academic aunties, Dr. Leah Dunbar and Dr. Rena Dunbar, who have been lifelong mentors and inspirations to me. As identical twins, educators, and advocates for justice, they bring deep knowledge on Black feminism, Indigenous pedagogy, and the power of storytelling in education.
Leah and Rena have dedicated their careers to decolonizing classrooms and uplifting young people by co-facilitating Black History education and supporting Tribal History/Shared History curriculum implementation. Their work highlights the intersections of Black Liberation and Indigenous Sovereignty, emphasizing how education can be a tool for transformation.
This moment, captured at the Many Nations Longhouse, holds so much meaning for me—I was reigning Miss Indigenous UO, standing beside two powerhouses who have shaped my academic and personal journey. I’m honored to share this conversation with them.
Tune in to hear about our shared commitment to teaching for liberation and making education a space of resistance, healing, and empowerment. 🎧✨
