There are places that never truly disappear. They live in memory, in scent, in warmth.
I remember visiting my grandmother in Gospić as a child. She would always be waiting for us with freshly baked homemade bread — wrapped in a linen kitchen towel, resting beside the wood stove, kept warm just for us.
Even today, I remember the taste of that bread: the crunchy crust, the soft, warm inside melting in my mouth. A moment of pure comfort — worth more than a million dollars.
My grandmother has been gone for a long time, but in my mind her image is still alive. I see her patiently kneading the dough, fully focused, completely present. I see her placing the small ball of white dough under a cloth to “rest,”
carefully moving it into the baking tray and sliding it into the oven.
Wood-fired stoves are unpredictable. She listened to the fire, waited for that exact, perfect moment when the bread had to come out. In those moments, time moved slowly — gently, quietly, perfectly.
This video is a tribute to those kitchens.
To grandmothers, to warmth, to food made with love.
