In gymnastics, one frequently observes a perplexing phenomenon: even experts lose well-established skills, and are not able to perform a mastered skill from one moment to the next.
Such a "Lost Skill Syndrome” can become a career-terminating event. We will discuss antecedents, physical, emotional, and cognitive consequences, as well as specific (psychological)
interventions that can help to deal with this syndrome.
