‘We will do it AGAIN!’ | Zack Polanski offers threat to Starmer after Green win in Gorton & Denton

Описание: There are now no “no-go areas” for the Green Party in England and Wales, the leader of the Green Party Zack Polanski has said, as he vowed that his party will “do it all again” at the local elections in May.

Mr Polanski’s party won its first ever parliamentary by-election in Gorton and Denton, when Hannah Spencer, a councillor and plumber, emerged victorious for the Greens.

Gorton and Denton voters have elected Hannah Spencer as their new MP. The Green Party's candidate claimed victory with 14,980 votes and a majority of 4,402,

She becomes the party's fifth MP and their first in Greater Manchester. Eleven candidates had stood in the highly anticipated by-election, seen as a major test for Sir Keir Starmer’s leadership.

Labour - who won the seat with over 50 per cent of the vote in 2024 - collapsed, finishing third behind Reform's Matt Goodwin.

After polls shut, the by-election was hit by claims of illeg al family voting. Independent election observers claimed there were 'extremely high' cases of the practice at polling stations across the constituency.

The by-election came following the resignation of the previous sitting MP, Andrew Gwynne, last month. Mr Gwynne had served as an MP for the constituency since 2005, when it was known as Denton and Reddish. He officially resigned on January 22.
