Let’s discuss Diving Rules.
Diving is also known as simulation, is a serious offense that affects the integrity of the game.
Law 12 on Fouls and Misconduct discusses diving.
Diving is an attempt by a player to deceive the referee by pretending to have been fouled or injured.
To recognize diving, look for players exaggerating a fall or contact to win a free kick or penalty.
Diving often involves a player going to the ground without any significant contact from an opponent.
Sometimes players delay their reaction to a challenge to make it seem more dramatic.
If the referee determines that a player has simulated a foul, the player should receive a yellow card.
The opposing team is awarded an indirect free kick from the spot where the diving occurred.
Players known for diving can develop a negative reputation, leading referees to scrutinize their actions more closely.
An example of diving is often seen inside the penalty area.
A player may dive inside the penalty area to try and win a penalty kick.
In some leagues, players can face retrospective punishment for diving even if the referee missed it during the game.
This can include fines and suspensions.
