Checking, Adjusting or Replacing the V-Belt on a Gilson Testing Screen

Periodically checking the Testing Screen’s belt for wear, tension, and alignment can prevent future excessive vibration and assure a long service life.

To check, adjust or replace your V-Belt in your Testing Screen you first disconnect the machine from its power source.
Next, release the screen trays.

Now remove the top cover and side covers to the machine and safely set them away.

Note the short load line to the electronic controller.
Rest the side cover aside as to not cause any stress on the load line.

It’s important to examine the interior the unit while you have it opened. Check for leaked hydraulic fluid or excessively warned parts.

Check the Testing Screen’s belt for wear, tension, and alignment. The belt should be snug, neither too tight nor too loose, and should deflect about 1/4in (6mm).

If the belt needs adjusting, you first loosen the motor mounting bolts.
Now check to see that the pulleys are aligned.

Then position the motor to obtain the proper tension in the belt. The belt should be snug, neither too tight nor too loose. (Belt should deflect about 1/4in (6mm))

Tighten the motor mounting bolts. And return the top cover and side covers.

If the belt needs replacing, you loosen the motor mounting bolts.
Slide the motor toward the front of the machine, which will disengage the belt from the motor pulley.

Free the belt from the pulleys.

Next rotate the drive pulley till the connecting rod is at its furthest down stroke.

Insert a wedging device between the separator crossmember and the top case, stabilizing the alignment between the connecting rod’s shoulder bolt and the separator.

Now remove the shoulder bolt.

Next rotate the connecting rod upward until you can remove the belt. Place the new V-belt around the connecting rod in the reverse manner. Return the shoulder bolt.

Rotating the drive pulley as necessary, remove the wedging device.
Next, place the V-belt around the pulleys.

Now check to see that the pulleys are aligned.

Next, position the motor to obtain the proper tension in the belt. The belt should be snug, neither too tight nor too loose. (Belt should deflect about 1/4in (6mm)) Tighten the motor mounting bolts.

And return the top cover and side covers.
