Title of Event:
Inherent Good Film Screening & Filmmaker Discussion
Screening and discussion on Thursday, June 17, 2021 6:30 - 8:30 PM EDT
In 2017, filmmakers Steve Borst, Rennie Soga and Chris Panizzon set off to make a film about universal basic income. Over the 3 years of principle shooting, they documented stories across the south, highlighting the current impact of our economic systems on people from small town Celina, Tennessee to Jackson, Mississippi and highlight the power of monthly cash via the Magnolia Mother’s Trust guaranteed income demonstration. Watch the film and be part of a panel discussion and audience Q&A with the filmmakers, joined by executive producer and star of the film, Trae Crowder.
Panel Questions:
What inspired you to focus on universal basic income?
Inherent Good actually began official production at the 2017 NABIG. Tell us about the role this conference played in making the film.
How did you decide that Trae’s hometown of Celina should be a central character in the story?
What were some of the more personally impactful things you learned or experienced when spending time with the moms of Magnolia Mother’s Trust?
Over the course of making this film, how has your own thinking about UBI evolved in terms of how to best communicate it to everyday people, particularly people in the south?
