With the outbreak of the Second American Civil War on June 1st, 2025, one of the first places to see active combat beyond the brushfire wars that existed since the Burns, Oregon Insurrection in June 2023, the mountain town of Breckenridge, Colorado would become one of the first major battles of the war, as loyalist forces would lay a siege to the town that was now a part of the breakaway Front Range Republic, a part of the fifty mile wide I-25 corridor stretching from Fort Collins, Colorado in the north to Colorado Springs, Colorado in the south.
The siege would last until June 19th and the end result would be a pyrrhic victory for the loyalist forces as the Front Range Republic soldiers would inflict heavy casualties before being forced to retreat out of the area through a corridor on Colorado Highway 9, having bought valuable time for those closer to Denver to build defensive positions.
