Описание:
Mission executed on 7 May 2004 by Navy Reserve helicopter squadrons HCS-4 Redwolves and HCS-5 Firehawks in the western desert of Iraq. The mission was to intercept two suspected arms dealers in route to execute a deal.
HCS-4 and HCS-5 performed special operations missions in Iraq as part of the Combined, Joint Special Operations Air Detachment, Arabian Peninsula, or CJSOAD-AP.
Navy HCS squadrons and later the Redwolves of HSC-84 spent nearly a decade deployed to the CENTCOM AOR supporting combat operations, amassing 14,500 flight hours with zero loss of life.
Despite this incredible record, the US Navy opted to disestablish HCS-5 in 2006, HSC-84 in 2016, and HSC-85 in 2023, ending 48 years of dedicated special operations and combat search and rescue support in the helicopter community.
