As an alternative to going all the way north to Magdalena Bay, you can depart for a sea safari from the small Mexican village of Puerto Chale, about an hour south and still in Baja Sur. This is from end of October - the beginning of whale and striped marlin/ baitball season.
We saw humpacks, dolphins, a jumping mahi, and of course sea lions! We finished off the afternoon surfing with the sea lions off the coast of a nearly abandoned island where they formed a massive colony of over 1000. Watch til the end for the wipeout that claimed 3/5 people's fins! Super cool to watch the sea lions whizzing through the huge waves!
