WATCH 👀 and follow our latest trainee firefighters on week six of their trainee firefighter course. This week, it’s over to Brett and Becky to tell you about their 3-day Hazardous Materials Module at our Command Development Centre.
The trainees have to use an Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) book of chemicals to decide what to do with the spill or leak. They demonstrate the use of a boom to prevent the chemical from going down drains, thinking of environmental considerations. They also demonstrate the setup and use of the initial decontamination procedure (called dry peel) and show how to treat and rescue casualties from the risk area.
