On October 14, 2017, Phil Ewins was on his way to propose to his girlfriend, Dikla, when he was involved in a horrific car crash that left him impaled on a 10ft pole.
Thanks to the quick actions of West Midlands Fire Service, led by Watch Commander Chris Hill, he was rescued. The team faced extreme challenges, as cutting the pole could have worsened his injuries.
Phil, still conscious, recalls the tension as they worked to save him. After lifesaving surgery on his liver, lungs, and diaphragm, he spent four days in a coma but has since made a good recovery.
