Poetic Justice Theatre Ensemble presents, "Shout Out or Shut Down". This video shows audience members embodying "rainbow slices" (emotional bodies) of the Teacher character as they explore what might be going on underneath the surface.
Using the evocative and universal language of theatre, audience members watch a short scenario portraying a tense interaction between a high school student and a teacher. This scene will then be deconstructed via a technique known as the Rainbow of Desire and serve as a springboard for the audience to explore the various dynamics at play and gain a deeper understanding of what may be informing the beliefs and motivations of each side, as well as within oneself.
A part of Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed, the Rainbow of Desire structure uses physical imagery and improvisation to make visible the various fears, desires, and other emotions that may be happening below the surface interaction. It is a unique and compassionate way to learn about oneself as well as humanize the “other”.
