There are plenty of times when my writing sucks!

Writing sessions when I struggle to find and develop links between scenes, to identify the core motivations of characters.

Even days when I am unsure of the direction of the story or the structure needed for this next piece of non-fiction book.

When this happens I take my writing into my Writing Critique Group and open myself to receiving feedback and help.

Once a month I take part in a group within the Nottingham Writers' Studio and have been doing this for a long while.

My fellow group members bring their work and we read each piece away from the group, bringing our thoughts, questions and feedback to the online session.

"What were you trying to convey to the reader in this scene?"
"Have you considered adding X or Y to create foreshadowing?"
"If you were to change the existing words for these suggestions, how would it read?"

So don't sit alone with your writing and struggle. Let others (and they need to be writers too), let them read your pieces and share their perspectives, ideas and suggestions.
