When you bring a lawsuit seeking money as a form of compensation for injuries you suffered because someone else was careless, the attorney who represents the people you have sued have a right to question you to learn what your case is about.
This pretrial question and answer session is commonly called a deposition. Lawyers also call it an examination before trial. It takes place in an attorney's conference room.
There's no judge present and there's no jury present.
There is however a court stenographer there to record all of the questions you're asked and all of the answers you give.
Those questions and answers are then transcribed and put into a booklet called a transcript.
There are some opposing attorneys who LOVE to make objections during a deposition. They do it for a number of reasons. One, they think they have to. Two, they like screwing up the attorney's questions and making him lose his train of thought. Three, they believe they're protecting their clients' interests by objecting to most questions.
On the other hand, there are really experienced attorneys who rarely object to questions during a deposition.
