You can't be expected to remember every single detail.
That would be virtually impossible.
You remember key events.

You remember certain things.
But our memory fades as time goes one.
Our mind remembers some things, while discarding others.

Let's say you sue your doctor.
For medical malpractice.
For causing you significant harm.

Your doctor denies doing anything wrong.
Then he denies causing you harm.
Then he says your injuries are not that bad.

He tells you that he'll never settle your case, which means you'll see him at trial.

During your lawsuit, the attorney for the doctor, the defense attorney gets to question you during a question and answer session known as a deposition.

He asks you a series of questions...

"What did you complain of on the first visit to the doctor?"
You tell him what you remember.

"What complaints did you have on the second visit?"
You're not sure so you say "I'm not sure."

"What complaints did you make on the third visit?"
You're now getting this visit mixed up with the other visits and you answer "I don't know."

"What problems did you complain of on the fourth visit?"
"I don't know exactly," you respond.

Is there anything wrong with answering "I don't know," in response to certain questions? The answer is no, there isn't.

BUT...

What happens if you suddenly REMEMBER the answers a few years later when the defense attorney asks you the same exact questions during your trial?

Is is Ok to give a different answer to the same question you were asked a few years earlier?
