Revisiting linguistic autobiographies in the heritage language classroom: Narrating Family Histories and Intralatino Experiences
Presenter: Maria Ciriza Lope, Texas Christian University
In this interactive workshop, K–12 educators will learn how to use linguistic autobiographies as a powerful tool to help heritage language learners reflect on their language experiences. We’ll explore strategies for guiding students to write about the role of family in their language development and to recognize the diversity within Latino communities (intralatino dynamics). Teachers will leave with ready-to-use activities that foster student voice, build classroom community, and validate multiple Spanish-speaking identities.
