Back in Black | 1972 Porsche 911 | RSR MC004 outlaw previously featured in Porsche Excellence Magazine with a 5-page spread after being built by TRE Motorsport in Cali. Absolutely intoxicating drive featuring steel 930 OEM turbo wide rear quarters and front ultra light TRE RSR fenders, the car has since undergone a complete refresh including new interior with Recaro Sportster CS seats in Napa leather with heat, new air-conditioning components, Porsche Classic Radio with Apple CarPlay, new exterior paint, matte gold vinyl graphics, brake pads, interior appointments, Rennline 911R tail lights, H4 European headlamps, and a 3.2L flat six with G50 trans with Wevo shifter, and upgraded 20/21 WebCams to brighten the top end along with a custom Steve Wong DME chip to go along with the hotter cams. Features custom RSR silver finished 17.00 x 11.00in Lindsey Racing Fuchs with Toyo R888 tires sized 315/35ZR17 at the rear and 17.00 x 9.00in 245/45ZR17 in front.
This 72 began life as a rust free California based 1972 911T. Built as a tribute to the legendary 911 RSR, the car has also been repainted in the original Porsche Color Code 700 Black. The car has gone through a 6 month refurbishment completed in November, 2024. Restoration was overseen by air-cooled experts at Foreign Affairs Motorwerks in South Florida.
Choice mechanical components include a Carrera 3.2L flat six motor and a G50 transmission from a 1987 Carrera. At the rear of the car, RSR coil-over conversion to improve handling. The pure, timeless 1973 RSR 2.8 serves as the source of aesthetic inspiration for this ultimate lightweight street and track fighter.
A pair of lightweight fiberglass 1973 RSR bumpers and lightweight ducktail both sourced from Getty Design help finish off the tailored look with ST stainless steel hinges. The gas tank has been upgraded with a 21 gallon tank, new lines, 87 Carrera oil pump, and mountings. The paint shines in its original Porche Color Code Black 700. Signature RSR outlaw details include Porsche vintage gold lettering on rear deck lid and door sills along with the Carrera RSR lettering on the ducktail.
The 1987 Carrera 3.2L flat six features upgraded 20/21 WebCams to brighten the top end, along with a custom Steve Wong DME chip to make the most of the new cams. The car has been on the dyno at Farnbacher Loles and delivered 243 hp to the rear wheels. The spark plug wires were replaced by Nology lines for faster and more efficient combustion. The custom exhaust system features SSI heat exchangers to further reduce thermal load, along with a Magnaflow dual outlet exhaust. To make the most of it’s power, the rock solid G50 five speed gearbox was disassembled and built up with shorter gear ratios, and upgraded with steel synchros and a billet actuation fork, along with a limited slip differential.
The cams, chip, and exhaust provide ample acceleration anywhere in the rev range, and this is a fast car by any standard, and only feels faster thanks to its lightweight build. The flat six absolutely sings and wails as the revs pile on, and it feels glorious in the mid-higher rev range. The massive rubber contact patch also ensures this 911 has tons of grip with highly responsive and very direct steering.
In the suspension and handling department, this 1972 RSR Outlaw build features a TRE upper strut brace bolted in to eliminate chassis flex. Front adjustable 23mm Weltmeister sway bars reduces excessive body roll, and a set of Alan Johnson USA 22mm torsion bars replace the stock units. At the rear, the suspension features RSR coil-overs along with 935 spring plates, freshened up with stiffer Bilstein inserts along with 22mm Weltmeister anti-roll bar. Rear shock towers have been reinforced with triangulated steel welded onto where the chassis and shock towers meet, resulting in increased rigidity. To cut down on excessive body roll, the Weltmeister anti-roll bar is complemented by later rear aluminum control arms. TRE also installed monoball bushings to eliminate slop. Braking has been considerably beefed up with a Brembo GTP brake kit, chassis modified to accept the 1984-1989 Carrera vacuum booster and master set-up. Aluminum, four-piston calipers at all four corners clamp 12.7-inch cross-drilled and vented rotors.
Interior equipment features fully customized blacked out details including Momo Mod 07 deep concave leather steering wheel, leather dash, and Recaro Sportster CS seats in genuine soft Napa leather with heat, and a black WEVO Short Shifter, later dash gauges. Includes a TRE RSR roll bar, and the lightweight RSR vinyl leather door cards with leather pull straps feature newly installed speakers. The door cards are minimalist 1973 RS units with trademark leather pullstraps with lightweight carpeting in black perion.
