In everyday life, we’ve all experienced the small “shocks” of static electricity or electrostatic discharge (ESD). This occurs when electrons accumulate on your body and are released when you touch an object, causing a brief shock as the excess electrons are discharged.
However, this static discharge can cause significant problems, such as damaging sensitive electronic components, attracting contaminants in cleanroom environments, or causing products to stick together.
ESD-safe tweezers help control the electrical potential difference between the user and the workpieces. While they don't prevent static discharge entirely, they limit the peak current of the discharge, which can be crucial in protecting delicate components from damage. These tweezers maintain a balanced charge and low surface resistivity, meaning they neither gain nor lose charge to surrounding objects or surfaces.
