Want to make the habit stick? Here are 3 powerful psychology hacks to trick your brain into using your Aviron rower!
1. Make it Easy – The more obstacles that get in the way of our habits, the less likely they are to stick. For me, this meant going with the 22” HD touchscreen option versus the cheaper option where you use your own tablet as a screen. The couple hundred bucks extra guarantee that I’ll never talk myself out of exercising due to an uncharged iPad or just straight up laziness connecting the tablet to the machine. Easy habits stick, hard habits don’t.
2. Make it Obvious – Put your Aviron somewhere you see it every day. Mine is in my living room. It’s obnoxious af there. But every time I physically trip over it, it also guilt trips me into getting a workout in. You don’t have to be as crazy as me, but you also shouldn’t tuck it away in the spare guest bedroom/storage room no one ever goes in. Even the garage is a bit risky in my opinion unless you’re in there often and enjoy being in there. Obvious habits stick, forgettable ones don’t.
3. Make it Fun – Really explore Aviron’s programs to find the games you like best, and keep it varied. I think it’s unlikely anyone can exhaust all the content on there, but continue to engage in new programs as they release. I like to start with a warm up, maybe a class, and then use my remaining energy to play some games; then do a short cool-down stretch class. If you hate a certain program or just don’t find it engaging, don’t bother with it for now. Stick to what you do like, and see how long you can keep it up until you crave some variety. Fun habits stick, boring habits don’t.
