Indian Railways is increasingly leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to strengthen track safety across its vast 1.25 lakh-kilometre network—one of the largest railway systems in the world. With tracks exposed to diverse weather conditions nationwide, undetected rail fractures can pose serious accident risks.
Speaking on the initiative, Dilip Kumar Jain, Principal Project Engineer at CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems), explained that track health is crucial for safe train operations. Steel rails and welded joints have a defined lifespan, based on age and the total load carried over time.
