Dudhwa National Park is one of India’s most important wildlife reserves, located in the Terai region of northern Uttar Pradesh, along the India–Nepal border. It is famous for its rich biodiversity, grassland ecosystems, and conservation success stories.
Habitat types:
Tall Terai grasslands, Dense sal forests, Marshes and wetlands, River systems and floodplains.
This Terai ecosystem is among the most productive wildlife habitats in India.
Dudhwa is the only place in Uttar Pradesh where rhinos live, reintroduced successfully in the 1980s. Today, these armored giants walk the grasslands once again.
A living example of restoration.
Once on the brink of extinction, the swamp deer — also called barasingha — found refuge here.
Dudhwa became their last stronghold. Through decades of protection, their population slowly recovered. Today, their presence is a symbol of hope. Proof that conservation can bring species back from the edge.
Migrant elephants moving freely between India and Nepal. Following ancient routes older than any human border. Their journey reminds us…That wilderness cannot be contained.
The Park remains closed from July to October.
