In The Pink, a photography gallery based in Loulé and Quinta do Lago, is delighted to announce “Storytelling” a solo show by David Yarrow from the 19th of July 2024. David Yarrow is widely recognised as one of the world’s best-selling photographers, now being represented by In The Pink in Portugal.
The show will span over three floors of In The Pink’s Loulé gallery and the exhibition will take visitors on a journey through Yarrow’s illustrious career. There will also be artworks by David Yarrow shown at In The Pink’s new space in Quinta Shopping.
“Storytelling” is an assemblage of David Yarrow’s adventures and misadventures over the last ten years, where he has created stories as an art form from a mix of the natural world, people, places and events creating wonderment and surprise to the viewer. He is a maker rather than taker of photographs, more akin to a film director who transports you to a cinematic world of fantasy and the unusual. His work takes meticulous planning with huge support casts and quite often he introduces us the well-known celebrities in ways that they have never been seen before, whether they be super models like Cindy Crawford and Cara Delevingne, actors Bill Nighy and Russell Wilson or sporting icons - Gary Player, John McEnroe and Erling Haaland.
Born in Glasgow, Yarrow’s idols include Scottish photographers Albert Watson and Harry Benson and he is a devout football fan of his beloved Scotland. He took up photography at a young age, and at age 20 found himself working for the Times of London during the 1986 World Cup Final in Mexico City. The resulting photograph of Diego Maradona holding the Jules Rimet trophy aloft in the crowd told a victorious story in its entirety and was widely published around the world.
At the time Yarrow chose banking as a career and later set up his own Hedge Fund in the City of London. Yet, his heart was always elsewhere and in 2014 he sold the Fund to return to his passion. He had a plan and was very clear on how to execute it. His breakthrough came after many weeks of travelling between London and Cape Town and eventually getting the shot he longed for in False Bay – the Great White Shark and his Sea Lion prey. It was his breakthrough moment and his first commercial sale – he has never looked back.
Yarrow’s photography sells all around the world and his editions sell out on a regular basis. Over the last few years he has sold over $120 million of works, raising $15 million for charitable causes, including his own David Yarrow Family Foundation.
