Teresa Freitas (Lisbon, 1990) is a Portuguese photographer and colourist mixing the genres of street, documentary and fine art.
With her signature post-processing techniques, Freitas imbues her images with a cinematic quality, where the boundaries between the natural and the artificial blur into a poetic dreamscape. Her ongoing series, Cinematica, typically with accents of cotton-candy pink, explores an aesthetic that recalls digital realms and the soft glow of nostalgia. However, in this curated selection, visitors can discover an unexpected vibrancy of green, a palette shift that brings the exhibition into a deeper dialogue with the organic world. Freitas approaches her subjects with a modern-day flâneur’s sensibility, wandering through both bustling city centers and tranquil landscapes, she absorbs the essence of a place, translating it into a composition that feels at once intimate and universal. Her work finds harmony between the built and the natural, suggesting that respite can be found in either, that serenity is not bound to a single place, but exists in the way we choose to see the world.
Her photographs reflect an acute awareness of contemporary aesthetics, drawing from digital culture while remaining deeply human. There is a sense of play in her work, a lightness that mirrors the experience of stepping into an alternative reality - one not so far removed from our own, yet imbued with a surreal, almost video-game-like perfection.
“Colourama” invites visitors to reconsider their surroundings, to see landscapes and cityscapes not just as backdrops, but as living, breathing compositions - where colour, structure, and emotion converge.
Through Freitas’s lens, the world is both familiar and fantastical, a reminder that beauty often lies in perception.
