I visited Turpan, one of the hottest places in China. This desert basin is home to over 2,000 years of history and was a key stop along the Silk Road. My Uyghur driver invites me to visit his home and family, and explains the culture and history of Turpan as well as life today for Uyghurs in Xinjiang. Along the way, I visit numerous historic and UNESCO sites like the Emin Minaret, Grape Valley, Jiaohe Ancient Ruins, and the Kumtag Desert.
