Today, we're tackling a question that lingers in the minds and hearts of so many who have escaped a narcissistic relationship: what happens when the narcissist realizes their shiny new life with the new supply was a catastrophic mistake? It’s a moment of quiet, internal implosion for them, a moment you will likely never see but can certainly learn to understand. And understanding this is a powerful step toward your own liberation.

When a Narcissist makes a poor decision, they are constitutionally incapable of acknowledging their mistake or taking genuine responsibility. It’s not in their programming. These individuals will go to extraordinary lengths to preserve their carefully constructed image in the eyes of their allies, peers, friends, family, and most importantly, in your eyes. The thought of appearing foolish or having made a misstep is intolerable to their fragile ego.

This is precisely why we often see Narcissists plastering their new Supply all over social media. It’s a performance, a grand play for an audience of one: you. While some of us, with our hard-won discernment, may have already noticed that this new Supply appears... underwhelming, indicating a poor choice on their part, the Narcissist continues to project an image of absolute perfection, attempting to conceal any and all flaws. It's crucial to understand that when they make these posts—the overly-staged "candid" photos, the gushing captions about finding "true love"—they are deliberately counting on their previous Supply—that’s you—to still be watching their social media.

I previously created a video discussing how the Narcissist denies you closure. This lack of a clean ending can leave you feeling lost, sometimes leading you to engage in monitoring their activities, inadvertently becoming a "spy" on their life. In that earlier video, I advised against checking their social media. However, paradoxically, for some, this act can occasionally provide a strange, unintended form of closure. It can be a mixed blessing. If you possess the strength to interpret what you’re really seeing, you might momentarily experience a pang of pain, but by looking beyond the surface-level illusion, you can recognize that the Narcissist is not genuinely content with the choices they have made.

You may not have heard from them for some time, only for them to suddenly initiate a "Hoover"—an attempt to suck you back into their vortex. This might lead you to investigate their current situation, where you discover them with a new Supply. The confusion is immediate: "If they're so happy, why are they reaching out to me now?" Let's simply and directly address the reality of the situation.
The Narcissist consistently makes terrible life decisions. They operate without the internal guidance system of emotional intelligence; they do not properly process their own emotions and possess zero Empathy for others. Consequently, they often make some of the worst decisions for the most illogical and irrational reasons.

So, what triggers these catastrophic, life-altering decisions? Often, it’s something you would consider minor, an event they blow completely out of proportion. This is called a "narcissistic injury." If you were to ask them to genuinely explain why they destroyed the relationship you shared, you would be astonished by their true response, should they ever be honest enough to reveal it. But of course, you are unlikely to ever hear the truth. The reason could be something as seemingly trivial as you receiving a promotion at work, which made them feel inferior. It could be you calmly setting a boundary they didn't like. It could even be a compliment someone gave you in their presence, which stole the spotlight from them for a mere moment.
