Dyslexia is a language based disability that primarily presents with reading difficulties due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words (decoding). Symptoms include late talking, challenges learning new words and information, challenges in spelling, writing, pronouncing words and a delay in learning to read. Most children with dyslexia can succeed in school with the appropriate instructional strategies, tips and specialized education program.
Some of these tips include providing ample time for dyslectic students to complete tasks, breaking tasks into smaller chunks, simplifying and clarifying directions, providing reading scaffolds like tactile and manipulative supports and graphic organizers, using mnemonic tools and using assistive technology.
