Hi, my name is Heather Ford, and I am a traffic attorney out of New Orleans. And I've had this happen a few times where people have paid tickets because they felt like they didn't have any other option.

So this is particularly was going on doing like COVID. And even during a tropical storm, people had a court date scheduled and the court ended up being close. And so they went and just paid the ticket online thinking that they didn't know exactly what to do.

That's a pretty dangerous thing to do if a moving violation is going to impact your record in a significant way. So if you're like a CDL driver, you do Uber, if you drive any part of your duties for work is a very real possibility that somebody is checking the record. And when you pay a traffic ticket online, that is the same thing as pleading guilty.

And for most tickets, if you know for most people it’s probably like a speeding ticket to failure to obey traffic sign, red light, stop sign, all those are moving violations. If the court is closed and it's your court date, they're gonna issue you a new court date. They're gonna either issue by mail or they're gonna give you a time period in which to come in and get a new date. If whatever reason you know you wouldn't be able to handle it because now you won't be in town you moving out that area. You can hire somebody to handle it for you.

It probably doesn't cost that much money, particularly compared to the consequences of taking a moving violation and what kind of work you do.
