Описание: Today we’re visiting Wellingborough Museum, a calm and welcoming museum set inside a truly fascinating historic building.

Housed in the former Dulley’s Baths, an indoor swimming pool built in 1892, the museum is full of character and local history. Inside, you can learn about the building’s origins as a public swimming pool, its later use as a shoe factory linked to Northamptonshire’s shoe-making heritage, and explore how the space has evolved over time.

The museum is spread across two main gallery areas. Downstairs, the exhibits explore early history, including the Iron Age, Roman Britain, the Middle Ages, Victorian times, and World War One. You’ll also find a charming 1950s seaside arcade area, where you can buy old pennies from the café and use them in traditional arcade machines — a fun and nostalgic experience for both children and adults.

Upstairs, the galleries focus on the 20th century and feature immersive recreations, including 1940s living rooms and kitchens, school classrooms, haberdashery shops, an air-raid shelter, and a large model of the Wellingborough railway. Children are welcome to interact with many of the displays, from sitting at old school desks to exploring toys from across the decades.

The museum café is a lovely place to relax, with colouring tables for children and even a piano that visitors of all ages are welcome to play. In warmer months, the outdoor area is also a pleasant spot to enjoy.

Entry to Wellingborough Museum is free, with donations welcomed to help support the museum and its upkeep. The museum is supported by a friendly team of volunteers who are always happy to share their knowledge and make visitors feel welcome.
