Being "offered" an induction for Gestational Diabetes?

There is no evidence to show that an induction improves outcomes for mothers, birthing people or babies for gestational diabetes when there are no other complications.
When your blood sugar is under control and you do not have any other complications, your pregnancy is not "high risk". There is no good reason why you can't birth your baby exactly how you choose, whatever way that is.
If babies are being induced, they are being forced to come before they are ready. This makes it more likely that they will have breathing difficulties, be more stressed by the process and need extra medical support when they are born (as well as more long term issues). The use of epidural increases the chances of shoulder dystocia and if you have augmentation (synthetic oxytocin) as part of your induction, you may feel you want an epidural as the contractions are more likely to be stronger and more painful than natural contractions mediated by your own body.
Risk of Post Partum bleeding is significantly increased with induction: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
Nice guidance does not recommend induction for Gestational Diabetes unless there are other complications: https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng3/...
Induction of mothers with gestational diabetes had no positive effects on outcome compared to waiting for spontaneous labour: Biesty et al 2018
