To avoid redness and irritation, you want to shave with the grain which means shaving in the direction in which the hairs grow. To find out which direction your hairs grow, run the ends of your fingers on your face before you begin. If you feel friction, that means your hair grows the opposite direction, and if it feels smooth, that means your hair grows in that direction and that's the way you want to shave. 01:09 Prep Your Face
You want to cleanse your face so you have a smooth surface to shave on. Use a face wash twice a day, and if you shave in the morning or at night, you can use this right before to remove debris and dead skin cells. Exfoliate beforehand too (however, you should only exfoliate twice a week). If you only shave once every two-to-three days this works out perfectly. Using an exfoliating scrub before you shave will make the skin extra smooth so shaving becomes quick and easy. 02:02 Use a Single Blade Safety Razor
Safety razors provide less tugging, allowing for a smoother shave. But make sure you are using a clean razor every time. Run it under warm water, gently and slowly glide the blade in the direction of the grain, rinse all the excess cream and hair off and repeat.

03:01 Rinse and Moisturize Your Face
Moisturizing your face will keep your skin healthy and hydrated so you can avoid razor bumps, blemishes and burns. Razor bumps are typically caused by ingrown hairs which happen when you shave against the grain.
