Cabinet’s Big Infra Push in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal Ahead of Elections

Описание: The Union Cabinet has approved the elevation of Madurai Airport to international status, enhancing connectivity to southern Tamil Nadu and boosting tourism, trade, and pilgrimage traffic. Simultaneously, two railway multitracking projects worth ₹4,474 crore were cleared in West Bengal and Jharkhand, adding 192 km to the network and benefiting over 5,652 villages with a population of 1.47 crore. The projects are expected to increase freight traffic by 31 million tonnes annually, reduce CO₂ emissions by 28 crore kg, and lower logistics costs. Officials highlight economic and tourism benefits, while analysts note the political timing ahead of assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
