This was the best mall ever. a whole mall just for glasses with literally a million to choose from. It was a great place and worth visiting if your in the market for some specs.
The Panjiayuan Glasses Market, often called Beijing Glasses City, is a massive five-story complex in the Chaoyang District specializing in affordable eyewear. Locals and visitors frequent the market because custom prescription glasses can often be made in under an hour for a fraction of the cost found in other countries.
Location & Logistics
The market is highly accessible via public transportation and is situated near other famous markets like the Panjiayuan Antique Market.
Address: 43 Huawei Beili, Panjiayuan, Dongsanhuan Nanlu (Northeast side of Panjiayuan Bridge).
Subway: Take Line 10 to Panjiayuan Station and use Exit B. The market is approximately 100 meters away.
Opening Hours: Most shops are open daily from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. Arriving early is recommended as some vendors begin closing about an hour before the official 5:30 PM lockdown.
Recommended Shops
With over 200 stalls, the market can be overwhelming; however, several specific shops are frequently highlighted by reviewers for their English-speaking staff and service quality.
Anna's Optical Studio (CC157): Widely recommended by Rachel Meets China and users on Tripadvisor for being English-friendly and professional. It is located on the third floor.
Yize Optical (CC148): Mentioned by reviewers on Tripadvisor for providing reasonable prices and good quality.
Shop 323: Known specifically for stocking a wide range of contact lenses and imported solutions at lower prices than standard optometrists.
Shop 411: Recommended for those seeking more unique or "costumey" frames.
Purchasing Tips & Pricing
Expect to find everything from standard frames and sunglasses to high-end titanium and progressive lenses.
The Process: Most shops provide an on-site eye exam to determine your prescription, though you can also bring an existing pair of glasses for them to match.
Typical Costs: A basic pair of glasses with an exam typically costs between 200 to 300 RMB. More advanced options, such as name-brand frames like Ray-Ban or premium lenses like Zeiss, can cost significantly more (up to 2,000 RMB or more).
Bargaining: Haggling is expected. Experts from Global Times suggest walking around the entire area to compare prices before purchasing and negotiating beyond the initially marked "discount" price.
Quality Checks: Judge frame quality by the smoothness of the material (check for visible lumps or bumps) and ensure the glasses are paired with a sturdy case.
just a wonder around
