Yes, the sand was very hot.
Whilst driving over high sand dunes in the Qatar desert, we drove down a very steep part of the dune, straight into a hollow.
The hollow was full of very soft sand that had blown into the hollow over the previous few days.
From where we were stuck, every direction was up and with very soft sand extending to around 50 Metres. To the left, there was sea water all the way to the edge of the dune. The only way out was up.
As we were alone, we couldn’t winch off another vehicle, so we used our sand anchor. We had to take two bites at it, necessitating the recovery of the anchor on each occasion.
The second part of the recovery involved winching up a very steep, soft dune.
The weather has started to warm up, the temperature was around 37°C. Our feet were getting a trifle warm on the sand.
The whole recovery took around 30 minutes. There were no other cars about and if there had been they would have had difficulty getting close enough to pull us out without getting stuck.
