Av and Tv are the two best exposure modes for beginners….

They are semi-automatic exposure modes – only the exposure is automatic all other controls (white balance, picture style, ISO, AF modes, AF sensor points selection, Exposure meter selection, drive modes, Auto lighting optimizer, exposure compensation etc.) can be selected and set by the user.

Most of the time the exposure is perfect. In case the exposure is over or under, the user can easily control it by setting the exposure compensation.

When working in Av modes the camera selects the shutter speed and ISO

Select smaller aperture f/11 or f/16 when you want everything sharp.
Select larger aperture f/4 or f/5.6 when you want the BG to go out of focus.
Use a smaller aperture to get better sharpness.

When working in Tv modes the camera selects the aperture and ISO

We can use Tv modes whenever we need control on action freeze or blur
Select faster shutter speeds 1/1000, 1/500…. when you want the action to freeze.
Select slower shutter speeds 1/15, 1/8…. when you want the action to blur.
Use faster shutter speeds to avoid handshake/camera shake
