Las Vegas police launching 'Meridian Project'; expands 247 counterterrorism intelligence

Описание: The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced plans to expand its counterterrorism and intelligence capabilities through a new initiative called the “Meridian Project,” aimed at building a 24/7 global threat assessment operation.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill unveiled the proposal during his State of the Department address on Friday, describing it as a necessary step to protect a city that hosts tens of millions of visitors each year and remains a high-profile target.

“When instability rises overseas, it doesn’t stay there,” McMahill said. “We continue to be a target.”

McMahill cited recent incidents and investigations, like the bio-lab recently uncovered and the bombing at Trump International Hotel, as examples of why local law enforcement must move faster and act independently when necessary.

The Meridian Project is designed to enhance Metro’s ability to detect, analyze, and respond to threats in real-time.
