How to Meditate for Longer Periods of Time
Meditating for long periods of time is one of the most efficient ways to make progress with meditation. While there is certainly an enormous amount of work to be done meditating 10, 20, or 30 minutes per day, shorter sits, and working towards integrating meditation into everyday lived experience, there is also an enormous potential for meditating longer periods of time such as 60, 90, or even 120 minutes at a time. When we explore this territory of meditation practice, we begin to explore other facets of the mind that are normally so 'in the background' of our experience, we don't notice them. Bringing mindfulness to these latent parts of the mind has enormous carry over into how we experience self, life, and world.
Yet, achieving this rigor of practice can be extremely harrowing in the beginning phases of meditation practice. Boredom and difficult negative emotions tend to be some of the most prominent issues that arise when meditating for longer periods of time. In this video, I present strategies you can employ to help effectively bring a more rigorous practice into your life in a sustainable, easily achievable way.
