Your First 1000 Hours of Meditation Practice - What to Expect & How to See Results

The first 1000 hours of meditation practice is a momentous phase of the path. There are so many unexpected twists and turns, triumphs and loses, breakthroughs and breakdowns. As we sit, we will wrestle with a lack of sensory stimulation, latent and buried emotions, mind numbing lethargy, racy and scattered emotional states, and an underlying doubt that this work is worth anything all.

But perhaps we keep going. Perhaps there's something attractive about that space, silence and stillness that beacons us to keep going. As the o.g. Friedrich Nietzsche once said, "When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you." We either receive the communication, or we don't.

As the minutes, hours, days, weeks, and years of practice accumulate, we find the initial wave of challenges dissolve, giving rise to newer, deeper, sometimes more existential challenges, but that we are now more equipped to handle. Like water smoothing a rock through repetitive abrasion, meditation transforms the chaotic mind, facilitating an ever deepening, utterly profound inner peace, happiness, clarity, wisdom, and compassion.

Before starting this work, or in the infancy phases of practice, all of this can sound like complete bullshit.

In this video, I explore what we can expect during this preliminary phase of the work and how we might accelerate our results.
